Autodesk has changed download method for 2014 product trial. Some products only have ‘install now’ option. You can’t download the installer media and install it on several machines. If you need to install it on 5 machines, then you need to download it 5 times. This actually make sense. If you want to try a software, then you will install it on one machine or two. Not on a dozen of computers. Install now will only download necessary files, not the whole installation media.
For example, you want to install AutoCAD 2014 64Bit. Using install now method will only download 64Bit files, with necessary prerequisites and components. Let’s say you already have necessary prerequisites installed. You already have materials library installed. This option will not download those files during installation.
It sounds ideal, isn’t it? Probably in a perfect world. However, many have problem using this method.
Another issue that you should aware in media delivery: some suites physical media doesn’t have 32Bit inside. Check the product list here.
32Bit is supported (not all products – see your software system requirement), but the physical media only have 64Bit inside it. You need to download the 32Bit media. If you need to install it on several machines, install now obviously not a good option.
Let’s explore all download options so you can choose what’s best you.
Download methods explained
Is there any other method we can use, if the install now option doesn’t work?
Certainly. Autodesk has 3 methods: download now, browser download and install now. You can choose which method you want to use in subscription center.
My favorite option is browser download, the traditional method. It is so far the most reliable for me. I use download manager software, so I can continue the download anytime. It allows me to control the bandwidth usage as well.
See the differences between those download methods here.
Unfortunately, if you are not on subscription your option is limited. As I mentioned before, free trial page only have install now option.
Download using virtual agent
There is one more place you can download your media: you can use virtual agent.
Go to Autodesk customer service page here. Find the virtual agent link as shown below. Click the ask button.
You will see a pop-up window. If you don’t see it, check your internet browser pop-up blocker.
If you want to download new product, click ‘Downloading New/Updated products’.
The only method offered by virtual agent is browser download.
Downloading older version in virtual agent
Subscription customer don’t have to worry about this. They can download it from subscription center. But what if you are not on subscription? If you lost your installation media, can you download the older version?
You can also download older media from virtual agent. Click ‘Downloading and Installation’ to find your media. However, it only offer 3 versions older than current. Now we have 2014 products, so you can only download 2013, 2012 and 2011.

Syahira,
Have you tried to download it using browser download? Install now option often not reliable even if you have good internet connection.
I have the same problem. How can I fix it?
I download 3ds max 14 by browser download but the file not extracted fully. They struck in certain level… what i do.. help me..
MS,
It looks like you need to download it again. The downloaded file probably corrupt. Where did you download it from?
When dowloading inventor the only option that works to dowoad it is download now so i wait an hour and hen it finishes i hit run and an err pops up saying a file is missing or has not ben dowloaded adn gives me no options
Where did you download the file? Is it from Autodesk account/subscription center? You should have browser download option.

Hi, I’m having problems downloading the free student version of AutoCAD 2014. I have a 64 bit system and am downloading the 64 bit version. I choose the install now option. At around the same point in the process I always get a message saying that unpacking failed or something like that. I click retry download and after a few seconds the installer closes, it says that installation complete but a few things failed to install, and it gives a log to check. I noticed in the log something about ACAD giving an error message and another thing beginning with a V. Don’t know if that will help or not, but I sure hope so.
Hi HB, I suggest you to try browser download option. Then you can try to install it from local disc. The download now option is often not reliable.
Before you try to install it again, I suggest you to perform clean uninstall procedure as described in Autodesk Knowledge Network here.
I have tried to download autocad 14 to my laptop and it keep on telling me tha they moved to anothe page or they are manually rebooting the system pr have a bad connection or my fire wall its not letting me so I try going everything
Hi, I just downloaded the student version of autocad 2011 (we’re using it in class for various projects) and I’m in the middle of the installation process when the program tells me I do not have the correct operating system. I have Windows 7 Home Premium which was listed as one of the possible operating systems in the system requirements so I’m not too sure why I am running into this problem. Any suggestions as to how I can get rid off/bypass this issue and continue my installation? Thanks.
The incorrect operating system means you are trying to install AutoCAD 32bit on Windows 64bit, or the other way around. If you are trying to install AutoCAD on 64bit Windows, make sure you download AutoCAD 64bit version.
Yup, that’s exactly what the problem was! Once I downloaded the 64bit version instead, everything worked fine and without any problems. Thanks for your help.
Halo gan.. :)
I got somebody to install AutoCad 2010 on my computer but I just found that there's problem on displaying ribbon. It shows the ribbon tab but it's just empty. Windows shows a pop-up dialog box saying something about "object reference.. bla..bla..". Had tried to explore autodesk forum but none solved my problem. Googling more led me to your site.
Any help please? Indonesian too here..
Hi Abi,
The quickest way to fix it is by resetting AutoCAD to default. But you will loose all settings and customization. Find reset settings to default link in AutoCAD group in your start menu.
Hi,
I downloaded DWG TruwView but it failed to install as I need .net 4.0 or something like that – contact my administrator. Unfortunately, I'm all there is and I don't know how to fix this. Can you help?
Cheers,
Brian
Hi Brian,
Try to uninstall .Net from your computer first. Then try to install TrueView again. It will reinstall .Net as prerequisites.
