I received my copy of Building Design Suite last month. I installed it on my Windows 8 machine, and try if it works correctly.

revit 2013

Revit 2013 and many of other Autodesk products are not supported on Windows 8 yet. Autodesk has released supported products list for Windows 8 here. AutoCAD and Revit are not in the list.

However, AutoCAD and Revit 2013 can be installed on Windows 8. If you want install them, try this tip from CADforum.

They may not work correctly

Even if you can install the product on Windows 8, it may not work correctly.

I found that in Revit, the stair by component tool doesn’t work. The finish and cancel button are disabled. Many tools may not work as well.

I heard that Inventor also has problem with content center on Windows 8.

The best solution for you is to use Windows 7 until supported version are released.

My workaround

I finally get Revit 2013 works well after I installed Update Release 1 and Update Release 2. However, I don’t use it for real production yet.

Apparently those updates have some fixes for .NET Framework 4.5. This .NET Framework version also cause problem if you installed it on Windows 7.

However, there is no documentation that mentions those updates will fix issue on Windows 8. So Revit 2013 is still not supported for Windows 8.

How to download Autodesk updates

You should try to keep your software updated. It will keep your software stable and fix errors that you may not realize yet.

You can download updates for your products here: http://usa.autodesk.com/support/downloads/

You are also get notified when new updates are released. See about Autodesk updates notification here.
