When Rotating objects, use NEWS

October 31, 2011 by Edwin Prakoso Leave a Comment

When you need to rotate an object 90, 180, or 270 degrees, you have to physically enter “90”, “180”, or “270” degrees respectively.

There is actually a quicker way!  As you may already know, the AutoCAD coordinate system is like a compass where “North” is 90 degrees, “West” is 180 degrees, and “South” is 270 degrees.  So, to rotate something “90 degrees”, simply enter N instead (and W and S for 180 and 270 respectively).

This will cut down on a lot of typing!

You can also use this method for any angle input. For example, you want to move object 1000 unit to top (North). You can type @1000<N for your second point.

note: Obviously, I omitted “East” for 0 degrees because when you enter 0, nothing will happen!

Thank you to Murray Clack for the tip!
