What is your favorite AutoCAD extension?

July 6, 2012 by Edwin Prakoso 5 Comments

I think almost every Autodesk product can be customized. But I believe AutoCAD has most customizations and extensions available, either free or paid extensions. It always amaze me what people can do with it.

Computer maintainence

Recently I read Shaan Hurley’s post about AutoCAD 2013 drawing tabs. It’s been a very popular plugin for years. But this is specifically built for AutoCAD 2013. It provides easy access to switch between opened drawing. Much better than using quick view or switching from Windows taskbar. There are some more functionalities in the contextual menu. This application is available in AutoCAD Exchange Store, you can download drawing tabs here.

I also see how often people refer to Lee Mac’s programs. He created many useful applications that you can download and use for free. I stumbled to this Layer Director, and very impressed with it. You can create objects and it will automatically activate layer for that specific object. So you can create text or dimension in annotation layer without switching layer first! Of course, you can also use tool palettes. But for some command line junkies, it’s not an option.

Autodesk also provides extensions for subscription customers. There are also technology previews in Autodesk labs.

What is your favorite?

In this post, I’d like to know what are your favorite extension for AutoCAD? It can be free or paid version. And why you can’t live without it? Please share with us, other readers might find it useful too!
