AutoCAD Startup Dialog Box

June 3, 2009 by Edwin Prakoso 3 Comments

Are you an old style AutoCAD user? Do you miss this dialog box?

I like it because I mostly use different templates in my drawings. And I feel that I miss it when Autodesk decided not to show it by default anymore.
First time I started recent version of AutoCAD, it always create a new file. Sometimes it’s useless. Not to mention sometimes a freshman just draw without knowing what are the units, scale list, linetype scale, and other related settings.
Using this dialog box is safer. It will make them aware to select a template before actually start to draw.
You can set this startup dialog box to open everytime you start AutoCAD, just like the old days!
Just type STARTUP [enter] then type 1 as new value then [enter].
Update: In AutoCAD 2012, you can also choose not to open new file or dialog box. You can set STARTUP system variable to 2.

Thank you so very much for the tip of the satrtup dialog box of entering 1 as a fix for everytime I start Autocad it would open to drawing 1. Totally useless and non productive program default .

I have used your system variable and now I'm good to go.

Thank you, Thank you very much.

Elvis accent on the pronunciation :)

Hi Edward…
Glad you like it. Probably Autodesk want to make it like Word or Excel which do the same thing. However, every body have their own preferences, and the good thing is they have option for it ;)
