Revit Plot conflicts with Windows Security Update

August 15, 2016 by Edwin Prakoso 6 Comments

If you are using Revit, you might see this error message:

“Revit could not start the print job because it was unable to connect to the specified printer. Check your printer connectivity and try again.”

I’ve seen several users posted in forums about this. Revit used to plot fine before, but suddenly give that error especially in batch plotting. Other software might print just fine; only Revit is affected.

The problem is latest Windows security update. If you recently installed Windows update, try to uninstall it and see if it solved the problem.

If you are using Windows 10, uninstall KB3172729 and if you use Windows 7, uninstall KB3177725. I haven’t seen any Windows 8 users reporting it, but you can check installed updates by the installed date.

If you are not familiar with installing Windows Update, refer to this article: How to Uninstall Updates or Service Pack.

thanks for sharing, this one could have taken ages to trouble-shoot, actually how did you identify the actual update involved ?

Hi Tom,

I read about this in several forums, and they found the solutions there. If you search in revitforum.org and in forums.autodesk.com you should find several threads about this.

I had to uninstall both KB3172729 AND KB3176493 to get it working again.

Uninstalling Windows updates is often not permitted in “corporate environments”.
They are typically loosely tested – but not exhaustively because doing so would overlap with the next security update.
..
so some other approach needs to be considered.
