AutoCAD 2012: AutoComplete

March 24, 2011 by Edwin Prakoso Leave a Comment

Have you get your AutoCAD 2012 yet? If you love command line, then you would immediately notice this new feature: AutoComplete. This is not a really new feature. We can cycle between command using tab key before. This tool looks nice, and if you don’t remember many commands then you will love it. Simply type several first character, then you will see AutoCAD suggests you what command you want to use. Then click it.

AutoComplete

What if I don’t like dynamic input? Will I still be able to use it? Sure. It will appear on command line.

System Variable

What are the options to use AutoComplete? You can control the option by typing AUTOCOMPLETE then [enter]. There are several options here. Try to read the help file, or you might want to try each options.

But I guess most of us will try to find how to turn it on or off :) It’s not because it’s a bad feature. There are always some questions how you can set it like good old interface. You can turn it off by choosing off in this options list.

Do you find it useful? I don’t think I will love it. Probably if I have it when I start learning AutoCAD, yes. But I already familiar with most used command alias, and I already use tab to complete my command… way before AutoCAD 2012 has AutoComplete.
